Aging wood for a rustic feel or shabby chic!

Aging wood... I was given this very simple recipe for aging wood years ago..

This is great for wood projects that you don't want to paint, but you want them to age naturally.. the person that gave me this recipe, would use it on new barn boards that had to be added to his barn for repairs...

You take a tin coffee can.. and you fill it with old nuts and bolts that you have around your workshop.. and you fill the can with a mixture of 3/4 water and 1/4 white vinegar.. and you fill it just above the nuts and bolts, and leave it a few days, then stir it around, and then paint the wood with this "water".. it will look like rust.. but the bolts will look good!.. this will knock that "new" look off of the wood, and the sun speeds up the rest of the aging process..

I have used this recipe on old bench boards, and it seems to work... if you go online, you could probably find a hundred more recipes for aging wood..

Google

This is where the internet can be a real friend.. you can find some of the old fashioned recipes for paint and what is considered authentic antique paint colours.. and all kinds of neat stuff lingers on the internet!
