Barn wood art.... makes great art pieces!

Barn wood art.... you can make some great rustic pieces from barn wood!..

Take a drive to the countryside, and you are bound to find some barns that are not in good shape... some are even abandoned..which is sad!... but the wood is great!

My sister-in-law, had such a barn, and every time we went to visit, I would pick thru some of the barn wood that had fallen off..

I would take these home, go over them very carefully, pick out any old nails, sand off the rough spots, and then I would either put a few planks side by side and attach with a piece of wood on the back, or I would paint on just the one piece of wood.. since it would be tall and skinny (usually older barn planks were about 1 x 12 inches) I have painted penguins, and other taller birds.. and it works well..

I also put a couple of pieces of wood side by side, attached a 1 x 2 inch piece of wood top and bottom on the back, and placed hooks on the bottom, and used it as a towel rack...(measuring 2 feet tall with a painting in the center) its amazing how many uses you can get from these older pieces of quality wood.. they may be gray and fallen off the barn, but they are usually still good pieces barn wood art!.. they are already aged (if you like that rustic look like I do!).. and they go over well in craft shows especially in the cities!.. you can cut them down to what ever size you want.. and you are definitly recycling! try some barn wood art!
