Craft Repair and Mending
If you would prefer to offer a service rather than be in craft shows etc... Craft Repair or mending is another great business!
To give you an example, in my neighbourhood, there is a lady that advertises herself in the local paper, as "dont throw it away.. let grannie mend it!".. There are lots of people, who just don't have the time or don't want to fix their clothing.. This is what she specializes in!.
She does, button sewing, alterations, hems.. all kinds of repairs. By having a Craft Repair business.. you could also work on other areas.. obviously for this lady, sewing is her business.. but depending on your passion, and what you have a talent for, you could also do all kinds of craft repair, wood repair, furniture repair, there are even knitters who will finish a garment you just never got around to!..
People are busy, and if you can help them, or fix something, or create something for them.. then you can build a great Craft Repair or mending business..
Think outside the box!.. think of things you know your friends and family never get around too, or think of people you know that could afford to have you repair some of their nice clothes, or fix a sweater?.. diversify!.. look at all angles!.. I am sure there is a "niche" out there just for you!
Figure out what you are quite good at or passionate about, and put an ad in the local paper and see what responses you get.. This will not cost you very much and is worth seeing what the market has for you!
Let everyone know, friends and family FIRST.. that you can fix, repair or mend their clothes, do alterations, fix or replace a zipper (that is the most common one!)even as simple as sewing on a button.. you may be surprised at the response you get!.. Not everyone is handy with a thread and needle, and with the cost of nice clothing these days, they are willing to spend a bit to keep wearing it.. I have mostly concentrated on sewing repairs here,.. but just think about what you are good at, and could you offer this as a service?.. Last year I finished painting a old milk urn for a lady that started it 10 years ago and never finished!..I tried to copy her style as she wanted it to look like she did finish it!.. and paid nicely for that!.. Painting and sewing is my passion.. Since then I have done a few paintings that were actually repairs or finishing of someone else's project.. There is a market for this.. just get your name out there!
