About Me

Why not sign up for the Crafts for Cash Newsletter?..

A bit about me (the author!)...I live in Ontario, Canada... and about 15 years ago, I was working full time, with a family, house, mortgage etc... (you get the picture!) trying to get ahead, when I became seriously ill.

I was leading the "busy mom" life.. never saying NO, not really eating properly, then BAM, flat out sick!.. I was 33, and I had to give up my job, and could not even take care of my own family..as I was pretty well bedridden, had to get help..

Long story short, I was lucky enough, with proper care and treatment to get better, but was told I could not go back to the busy life I had. Being sick forces you to analyze your lifestyle in more detail, as before you were too busy and not enough time.. well that turns into plenty of time staring at the ceiling while in bed for days at a time... and decide, what is worth your time and what is not..

Of course the bills still came in!.. my husband saw how depressed I was, that I could no longer take proper care of my family, (I had to use a walker at one point).. and said "why don't I journal, or draw like I used to?..(I loved painting and drawing way back in the teen years!) while I am getting better?.. I started by drawing with a few art supplies, and then I felt great for what I had drawn, and it temporarily took me away from my health issues.. I felt a little better for it!

I continued doing this, and then on a drive my husband saw a new "crafters style marketplace" opening on a major highway, and with nervous hands and dry mouth, I approached them, to see whether I could try and sell my art in their store.. and they loved it!

I started to make a few dollars, and felt I had to figure out a way to make this work as a business, because my health could not tolerate a full time job.. and I needed to make extra money to help with the bills.. so I read everything I could on selling, and also arts and crafts.. while I was healing... and with the support of my family and my extended family, my arts and crafts business was born!

You too can make selling your arts and crafts work, it takes effort and you have to become "thick skinned" and not take rejection personally.. as many craft shows are "juried".. where judges decide whether your creations are good enough for their shows!..

That first day, in that new store, was the leaf turning day for my business.. and I have never looked back, sure there are days, when you make what you think is a great product.. only to not have it sell at one show, but then sell out at another!

Do what you like the best, and the quality will be there, and it will sell, you just have to find the right place and time to sell.. This website, will give you many ideas and ways of selling your arts and crafts.. some will appeal to you, and other won't!.. I also suggest many store and sites that carry great supplies, I have bought from ALL of them myself.. browse a while, come back often, as I am always adding more ideas.. sign up for my crafts for cash newsletter, and have FUN.. because, you need to love what you are doing to sell it!.. Don't wait for a nasty health issue to start your own arts and crafts business!

Sign up for the free Cash for Crafts Newsletter and keep informed!..
