Try painting Decorative Murals...

Decorative murals can be a great way to spruce up a "not so good" wall... I have painted many mural on drywall that was a bit patchy or under the stairwells, or small bathrooms, it can make a boring wall come to life!

My favourite decorative mural, was in my small 2 piece bathroom.. It was sooooo small you could hardly turn around, it had just a toilet and a pedistal sink.

I decided to make it look like the outdoors, by painting the walls a very light sky blue with lots of white whispy clouds happening, then I decided to paint a white picket fence all the way around.. now this sound easy, but I am telling you!.. I was testing my yoga positions!.especially painting behind the toilet!

I used a flat 1 x 3 inch piece of wood as a template, and then made the white pickets a bit rustic with knots, and some wear lines, then I painted a bird on one of the pickets.. by the time I was done, it felt like you were in the great outdoors on a bright day (this bathroom has no window).. everyone liked it.. and even on the day we sold the house, I was asked by the agent to leave it like that as it was tasteful, not to loud and the blue was soft enough to be soothing!

Therefore decorative murals can have there place!.. Entrances are another good place, just make sure to use satin varathane over your work so the wall can be washed over and over.. If the time comes you want to paint over it, then you just use a primer and it will be gone..

Donna Dewberry also paints murals, and if you like to read, then check out her book on murals.. I have this book, and it gives you lots of great ideas..or if you don't feel confident with a whole wall... then why not try and paint a free hand border?
