Crafts ... and Getting Started
Organizing
Before you can start your craft business, you need to get yourself a notebook for craft ideas, and a spot in your house that you can call your own for your business.
Sit yourself down in a comfy chair with a beverage of your choice, and start to use that creative side of your brain to come up with some ideas of what you would like to make and sell.
Why not check out a few craft shows in your area, PLEASE DON'T BRING A CAMERA OR COPY ANY OF THEIR WORK.. you wouldn't want that to happen to you!.. It is to give you an idea of whether you would like to market your crafts this way.. make a mental note of the size of the area, what they are selling, prices, and if you are anything like me... it will get your brain working on some ideas of your own.
If you like to read books, this is a good e-book that would also help get you started, just click on this link and follow the instructions START A HOME CRAFT BUSINESS!
Craft Shows are a great way to get yourself known. This is another item you need your notebook for!.. A Business Name.. it should reflect what you do and what you are about.. Also take pictures of some of your work and make it into a flyer, there are great computer programs out there for desk top publishing on making business cards and flyers.. They look good at craft shows on the table along side your creations. Another good e-book to purchase and read is:
CRAFT SHOW SUCCESS SECRETS! .. this could save you a lot of time and mistakes..Research is fun and useful, reading other peoples experiences as in these e-books can help you skip the growing pains of starting a business.
This part is just as important as making the crafts. You need a plan. This way you can stay focused, and don't jump from one craft to another and waste time and money. Just because everyone is making a "widget A: doesn't mean you should. Try and come up with something a little different. You may need to look through craft books and magazines to help inspire you. You can get these free at libraries. Spend the time on research first, just like you would any other business.
