The High Society.... Cheapskate!

Watch out for the high society cheapskate!

I have been in the craft business enough years to have met all walks of life, and the most humorous ones I have met.. are what I call the "high society cheapskates"!!.. These are the people that come into your store, craft market, craft show, or call you from your business card.. and will spend ages telling you how well they are known in "high society".. and how well your piece of art or craft would be shown at his/her high society parties!

This is where they are leading up to you GIVING them a craft or piece of art.. for FREE!.. they feel that with their high society social life that your piece would be on constant show and therefore you would get lots of orders, so therefore they should have this piece for free!

I am NOT kidding!.. First of all, unless you know this person for sure, this could be a lot of hype.. and the only time I would give away a piece because it would receive lots of traffic, would be to an establishment, such as a gallery, lobby or someplace like that. This is your call, if you feel this person could give you lots of exposure than its up to you!

But from my experience... most of the "high society" people do not brag about it, most of these that come to you tend to be "wanna bees".. I did have one lady though, who wanted me to come to her house and paint a life size mural on her wall for all to see, and she thought nothing of paying her gardener, driver, all the trimmings of a high life, a great salary, but chose me to give her something free, like she was doing me a favour!.. I actually find that insulting.. as you progress in this business... there are many people who view the arts and crafts business as a "fluff" business.. not a serious business.. these are the people who do not appreciate the hard work involved, so get a chuckle out of all the creative ways people will try and get your work for free!... In a twisted way, you should also feel honoured that they like your work enough to try this on!.. get a chuckle!
