Create a Welcome Chair for your garden or porch...

Here is a really cool idea for your garden or front porch... a

welcome chair!!

This is very effective with an old chair. It can be any kind of chair, but I found an old wooden kitchen chair works the best..for a welcome chair.. but get creative.!

Take your wooden chair, and find a terra cotta pot that is a bit small than the seat of your chair.. trace the bottom of the terra cotta pot onto the chair, and then add at least an inch to the diameter to make it a bit bigger.. now this is where you need someone handy with a jigsaw!

Cut the circle out of the chair.. CAREFULLY!.. then sit your terra cotta pot into the chair to check the size, it should sit partially into the hole.. if you want more of it sunken, then make the hole large, but you can see the effect!. It will look like a potty chair to begin with!

Then take the pot out, and start to decorate your chair.. I like chairs with the flat piece across the top back, so that you can create a WELCOME sign there.. with paint, free hand, or use stencils.. whatever you want!.. then paint the chair, or sand parts of it down to create an aged look, or make it look new.. this is where you get creative, then put the terra cotta pot into the hole, with a really pretty plant in it!. You can also decorate the pot, but I find with this welcome chair.. that your artwork is the chair, and you don't want it to be too busy, especially since you will have flowers as well..

This chair will work anywhere in a garden, but looks its best on a front porch or deck beside the door.. for visitors to see!.. everyone will want one!
