This craft is a great seller and costs you very little to make. As you can see you start with a denim back pocket off of adult sized recycled denim jeans.
You can add your specialty to the surface to make each one unique. I like to paint so with this particular one I used acrylic paints and painted a frog hanging from a twig. But you could also use beads, embroidery or quilting or anything you want.
Here are the instructions for making the basic denim pouch pocket.
What you Will Need:
Pair of Adult clean and soft denim jeans with back pockets Sewing machine with stronger denim needle washer and dryer tape measure creative supplies for front
How to Make:
Step 1 - Taking a tape measure, measure 6 inches below bottom of pocket and draw a straight line with a fabric marker or pencil. (This will be for the fringe).
Step 2 - Take a sharp pair of scissors carefully cut the entire pocket and the fabric below the pocket from the jeans. Remember to cut right through because you want the pocket to still serve as a pocket afterwards. Cut close to the pocket seam edges.
Step 3 - With your sharp scissors create fringe by cutting up to the bottom of the pocket approximately 1/4 inch apart.
Step 4 - Looking back at the pair of jeans you just cut the pocket out of, find an inner heavy seam and cut it out and use this for the hanger. You can sew this on the back of the pocket using the sewing machine or by hand.
Step 5 - Throw this denim pocket into the washer and then the dryer and your fuzzy fringe will have formed. You are now ready to get creative on the front of the project. As you can see it will hold small fuzzy toys especially beanie babies.
Instant Wall Storage for Anything!
It can also be used for craft supplies, or anything for a kid's room or a teen's room. Display a few of these hanging so that your customers can see them at craft shows and then have lots to choose from. These are a fun way to start a craft business as your expenses are low.
Denim is a very useful product and can be made into many different items and just never seems to go out of style.
If you plan on doing a lot of sewing using denim or other heavier fabrics investing in this Singer heavy duty sewing machine is a good idea. But if you are not ready for that kind of investment, then at least invest in the denim needles for your own machine to stop dangerous breakage.
