When making crafts to sell, and trying to come up with ideas, one of the best kept secrets to keep your costs down is the local "dollar store".
Your town or city is likely to have something. Many times they are called the Dollar Tree, or the 99 cent store, or the Dolarama. Either way, these stores are an unbelievable source for many of your craft supplies. Dollar Store Decor Aprons are really cool and "in" at the moment. Any wearable or useable craft just seems to sell better. If you like to sew and want something quick to make and keep your costs down so that you keep the profit, then check out this kids apron idea.
In this project you can get the tea towel, the ribbon and even fashion your own pocket from another tea towel. The video below shows you how to make it. But you could easily sell these for 20 dollars or more. If you set yourself up to make a few at a time, your stock will build quickly. Check out the video below and see if this inspires you to get creative with dollar store supplies.
Make a Few of These Aprons on the Cheap
Using the dollar store for some of your supplies does not make your project cheap. You still create quality which is important for selling. In the video they suggest you can use a glue gun, but really this project would be better by being sewn so that you can advertise your kid's apron as totally washable.
Parents would love to know that it can be thrown in the washer and dryer without it falling apart as kids are likely to get it dirty. I personally find that using a glue gun for fabric is not the best way if it is to have repeated washings. You can purchase specifically designed fabric glue. But from personal experience, either hand sew or machine sew.
Machine sewing would make this a very fast project and your hourly rate worthwhile. So remember, in this project you could get the tea towel, the ribbon, the pocket (unless you have some old jeans) you could re-design the pocket out of other fabrics if you would prefer, and the embellishments to sew on the front of the pocket can all be got at the dollar store. Therefore keeping your costs down.
This is a very colourful craft idea and would be perfect for the craft shows, especially if you could hang one up so it can be seen by people walking by your table. Remember you only have a few seconds to get them interested in your crafts.
