If you look around the internet you will find a few ways to tint mason jars, but these two videos I thought represented the process the best.
Method One Using Pebeo Paint and the Oven
The first one is a more professional way of doing this so that the glass can be used to hold water and is permanent. It is done on the outside of the glass so that you can use the jar for a vase or to hold fluids without chipping any color off. You will use specialty paints that I have found online, but it does give that beautiful tint especially the blue color, so check it out and see if this method works best for you.
The result is beautiful! I love the clear opaque coloring the glass takes on with this blue and would work perfectly for the mason jar bathroom organizer, or a vase as the paint is placed on the outside of the jar. I have found the paints she uses online below:
Follow the directions on the label and the video and that you don't preheat the oven you let the glass heat up, this prevents cracking. This method takes a bit more time, but the results are gorgeous and since it is done on the outside the glass can be used for day to day use as she does at the end of the video.
How to Tint Mason Jars with Food Coloring and Glue
This works well for any craft you want the tinted glass look. I wouldn't use these for drinking but they can be used for any other project such as the mason jar lamps, or the bathroom organizer for example. They can totally change the look with different colored tints.
Tinting glass takes a little bit of time, but you can get all the supplies online for a good price to keep your expenses down.
If you use recycled mason jars, don't forget to clean them really well by using hot sudsy water or placing them in your dishwasher. An alternative is to by new so that the glass is not foggy which can happen after many years of use.
