Don't throw out those older sweaters, make pillows!
Finding crafts to make and sell sometimes needs some creativity and imagination. But what I love about upcycling is that you are taking something that no one wants and turning it into something everyone wants. That old saying "One mans trash is another mans treasure" really rings true when it comes to craft supplies. (Not sure if I got the wording exact but you get the idea). I also found this DVD on Amazon to Upcycle Sweaters.
Go shopping in the thrift store or second hand store or even your friend's closets and see if they have some really nice patterned sweaters that would look better as a pillow. I love this video because she creates the pillow as a slip cover that can be taken off and washed. I like that idea rather than a stuffed pillow which doesn't wash as well when dirty. Check out the video.
I would suggest sweaters that are not itchy but super soft would work best. She used a plain piece of fabric for the back so that she got two pillows out of one sweater. Keep the pieces you cut off for other projects. This sweater was probably just sitting around and now it is a great pillow.
You can get the pillow forms from most craft stores but you can also get them online here:
You can get these online (click the link above) and also in different sizes. Another idea would be to cut your similar weight sweaters into squares and sew the squares together to make a patchwork sweater pillow. There are so many ways to make these.
You can also spend a bit more and get feather soft or down stuffed pillows if you want true softness in your projects. Everyone loves a nice throw pillow, why not create them from old sweaters and make them unique
