How to Make a Felted Purse - Upcycle Sweaters and Create one of a Kind Bags
Felting is basically shrinking the wool.
You do this by placing the wool item in a hot washing machine with mild detergent and then a hot dryer. Basically everything opposite to what you are supposed to do! This makes the knit fabric tighter and more durable for projects such as felted purses and wallets etc.
If you have any old wool sweaters in your home that have seen better days then this would be a great way to upcycles sweaters into fashionable bags and other projects.
If you have a craft business and are always on the lookout for unique one of a kind crafts to make and sell this can be added to the list. You do need a sewing machine for this to become a fast project and a bit of imagination as to how you will make your felted sweater purse unique and different.
Check out the video below to see how this crafty person creates a felted purse that looks really awesome and unique. I was thinking it would be nice to line it as well for a more finished look.

The cheaper you can get your supplies the better obviously for your bottom line and profit in your craft business, but you can truly express your artistic abilities creating a few of these felted purses. You could add bling or other pieces of sweaters as she has done in this video.
Upcycling sweaters and other materials into something someone would buy is the ultimate goal. I sell denim crafts successfully so I thought something like this would make a great addition.
You are not restricted to bags and purses when it comes to using felted yarn, you can create all kinds of things including little animals like in the book below.
You can felt your own sweaters and create purses, bags and more, or you can also purchase "felted wool" pieces to create little animals such as in the book above. Finding crafts to make and sell means keeping an open mind for creative ideas you would like to make as well as attract customers.
Felted wool has a tighter weave making it a very strong fabric to use for craft projects. Felting your own found wool sweaters for projects such as the sweater purse works well but if you need smaller amounts in different colours then you can purchase felted yarn in smaller batches online.
Hope the above video has inspired you to look in your closet for those old wool dated sweaters, or check out the thrift stores.
FYI- A friend of mine works at a thrift store and said they often have sweaters that they cannot resell as they are too damaged and they throw away, if you can get these ones not only are you creating beautiful pieces, you are keeping them from the landfill.
